The Highways Department at the Royal Borough of Greenwich is pleased to advertise a Highway Apprentice.
Overview
The Highways Team in the Directorate of Communities Environment & Central maintains the public highway across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The team delivers work related to inspection and maintenance of carriageways, footways and street furniture in accordance with contracts, statutory requirements and codes of practice, ensuring safety, minimising inconvenience to highway users and protecting the structure of the highway.
Responsibilities
Assist with the day‑to‑day maintenance of public highways, including inspection, repair and upkeep of road surfaces, footways, street furniture and related infrastructure. Support senior staff in planning and executing maintenance works while complying with health & safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum GCSE Maths (Grade 4/C equivalent) and GCSE English (Grade 4/C equivalent).
- Good understanding of civil engineering principles and the construction industry.
- Strong motivation, teamwork and willingness to learn.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Eligibility Criteria
- Live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
- For care leavers aged 16–25, have been looked after by the Royal Borough of Greenwich Children’s Services for 13 weeks or more since age 14.
- Not already qualified to the same or higher level in the same field.
- Meet required maths and English levels for the qualification; evidence such as GCSEs or Functional Skills certificates must be provided.
- Have ordinarily lived in the UK for at least the three years before the apprenticeship start.
