Royal Blue Consultants is working with a leading independent mental health provider to appoint a Hospital Director for one of its flagship hospitals. This is a senior, high-profile role at one of London’s best-known private psychiatric hospitals. You’ll have full accountability for a hospital of about 100 beds across seven wards, set in landscaped grounds.

The hospital is known nationally for its work in:

  • Adult acute mental health and addictions
  • Child and adolescent eating disorders and CAMHS
  • Inpatient, day care and outpatient services

The hospital treats mainly private patients, both insured and self-pay, and also delivers NHS-commissioned work. Patients have access to a wide range of therapies, including CBT, DBT, CAT, EMDR, schema therapy and more.

Why this role?

  • A career-defining position at a flagship hospital
  • A real mandate to shape the hospital’s next chapter, with investment already going into a stronger therapy leadership structure
  • The hospital is rated Good overall by the CQC, and you’ll lead the next stage of its improvement
  • A broad portfolio covering adult, young people’s, private and NHS services
  • The outgoing Director is leaving on good terms after two years

The role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will:

  • Lead the Senior Management Team and a large multidisciplinary workforce
  • Work with the Managing Director on clinical governance, patient safety and risk
  • Own the business plan, including revenue growth, EBITDA, occupancy, quality outcomes and regulatory standards
  • Keep the hospital inspection-ready and compliant with the Mental Health Act
  • Build strong relationships with consultants, NHS and private commissioners, regulators, patients and families

What we’re looking for

  • Senior leadership experience in private or independent healthcare (essential). Mental health, acute, rehab and independent hospital backgrounds are all welcome.
  • Experience as a Hospital Director, Executive Director or MD, with full P&L and operational responsibility
  • A strong commercial record in budgets, forecasting, cost control and service development
  • Experience leading change and transformation
  • Confidence working with clinical leaders, regulators and families

The package

  • 20% management bonus based on KPIs (up to £156,000 OTE)
  • Contributory pension
  • Flexible benefits, including private healthcare and gym
  • Birthday leave
  • Sponsored professional qualifications
  • Full time, 37.5 hours per week

We welcome applications from Hospital Directors and senior operational leaders across the independent healthcare sector.
