Birmingham City University (BCU) is offering an exciting 3 day, 12 month maternity cover opportunity for midwifery clinicians or academics to join a dynamic team of Midwifery educators as a lecturer. The midwifery team has a reputation for educational excellence, allowing students to meet the national and international requirements of midwifery, as well as facilitating their development as scholars and clinicians in the dynamic world of midwifery. We have established international partnerships, and you may contribute to further developing the global educational future that BCU strives to be part of.

You would be contributing to the expanding midwifery education portfolio, including undergraduate and postgraduate provision. Working in close partnership with practice placement partners, we ensure students qualifying from BCU meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), are conversant with the UNICEF BFI curriculum and are ready for the continuing journey in the global world of midwifery.

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a teaching team developing teaching resources.
  • Teach in a variety of settings and undertake tutorial support.
  • Participate in student assessment.
  • Act as personal academic tutor and academic assessor to a group of students in accordance with the Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (NMC).
  • Lead a cohort Link tutor to one of our placement providers.

Essential Requirements:

  • Have a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Midwife.
  • Are educated to a degree level in midwifery or a relevant subject area.
  • Have at least 12 months clinical experience of working in maternity care.

Desirable (not essential):

  • With a current recognised qualification as a Newborn and Infant Physical Examiner (NIPE).
  • Is a qualified A-Equip practitioner (Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement, NHS England).
  • Has obstetric emergency/simulation expertise.
  • Has research or quality improvement project experience.
  • Has public health expertise.
