We’re looking for an Energy and Data Officer to join our dynamic team who is passionate about the environment, has an eye for detail, and is experienced in data analysis and utilities management. Reporting to the Energy Manager, the Energy and Data Officer will support the effective management of the University’s multi-million-pound utilities budget while leading on utilities supplier liaison and sustainability data management. The role is central to ensuring accurate energy, carbon and environmental data is captured, analysed and reported to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with colleagues across Estates, Finance, external suppliers, and third parties, as well as supporting engagement with staff and students to help embed energy efficiency and environmental best practice across the University.

You Will

  • Support the management of utilities invoicing, billing validation and budget planning.
  • Lead on liaison with utilities suppliers and energy brokers, resolving billing and metering issues.
  • Maintain accurate energy and utilities data to support forecasting, reporting and trend analysis.
  • Lead on the collation, monitoring and analysis of environmental and carbon emissions data (Scopes 1, 2 and 3).
  • Support internal and external sustainability reporting, including annual returns and governance reporting.
  • Assist with audits, ISO 14001 compliance, and environmental management systems.
  • Contribute to carbon reduction initiatives and support delivery of carbon saving projects.
  • Support bids for energy efficiency grants and funding.
  • Communicate sustainability performance and support engagement activities across the University.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in utilities management and working with suppliers and resolving billing issues.
  • Experience of handling and analysing large datasets with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience of delivering projects and managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong numerical and computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships across teams.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach with a drive for improvement.

Why apply?

You’ll be part of a forward-thinking university that’s passionate about sustainability, equality, and continuous improvement. We offer an inclusive, collaborative work environment with opportunities to develop your skills and contribute to projects that make a real impact — on campus and beyond. You’ll be part of a team that values professionalism, respect, and fairness in everything we do.
