Job overview

The Legacy and In-Memory Fundraising Officer will be responsible for day to day delivery of our legacy and in-memory fundraising activity, with the aim of helping to grow income whilst building strong relationships with supporters and their families.

This is a vital role in helping the Charity build long-term income and deepen its relationships with the community, offering compassionate, sensitive and impactful supporter experiences.

They will use experience and creativity to inspire supporters to give and pledge as well as provide compassionate stewardship. They will be the first point of contact within the organisation for legacy and in memory fundraising and will liaise with colleagues (both within the charity and the wider Trust) and external suppliers (such as memorial tribute online platform organisations, crematoriums, funeral directors, solicitors and financial advisors) to develop exciting new opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Legacy Giving

  • Support the Fundraising Manager in developing and delivering the legacy strategy
  • Promote legacy giving via events, literature, digital content, and internal engagement.
  • Liaise with solicitors and executors to ensure timely income receipt and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain accurate legacy records, pipeline, and reporting on the database.

In-Memory Giving

  • Support development and delivery of in-memory giving
  • Provide compassionate care and stewardship for bereaved families and individuals.
  • Process and acknowledge all IMO donations, ensuring timely reporting and accuracy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funeral directors and other referral partners.
  • Produce in-memory promotional materials with the marketing team.

Campaigns & Events

  • Lead and support legacy and in-memory campaigns, from planning to evaluation, integrating into wider fundraising campaigns
  • Organise supporter engagement and remembrance events.
  • Represent the charity at events (evening/weekend ).

Administration & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate, GDPR-compliant supporter data management.
  • Reconcile and report legacy and in-memory income monthly, liaising with finance.
  • Administer legacy files, estates, and related documentation.
  • Monitor notifications from all sources and ensure compliance with legal/charity regulations.

Person specification

Education, qualifications & training

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Detailed understanding of GDPR regulations for the recording and maintaining of data.

Experience

  • Proven experience of working in a legacy giving role including understanding legacy administration and relevant legal frameworks
  • Experience in legacy marketing and fundraising methods, including developing and implementing campaigns
  • Experience of in-memory fundraising.
  • Experience of analysing data, tracking campaign performance, to identify areas for improvement to maximise income.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Developed keyboard skills, requiring accuracy and speed to input data into the Charity database and excel spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel, powerpoint, outlook) and fundraising databases.
  • Ability to compose accurate written and/or verbal responses to donors, supporters, and other stakeholders where there may be sensitive situations.
