As a Senior Counsel, Europe & APAC Employment Law, you will be part of the Global Employment Law Team and provide employment law support on contentious and non-contentious matters to functional and business partners across the enterprise for Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Employment law issues include common law and statutory employment laws, hiring, immigration, compensation, benefits, advice about single and group reductions in workforce, as well as privacy, disability (insurance) and human rights.
This is a permanent, full-time role and requires 4 days on-site at our 100 Bishopsgate, London office.
What will you do?
- Provides advice and counsel to functional and business partners to assist in the management of legal and reputational risk involving employment-related issues at the enterprise level for Europe and Asia-Pacific.
- Provides efficient and effective delivery of legal services to all platforms, which align with Law Group’s goals and objectives related to Designated Counsel.
- Manages litigation for employment law disputes by identifying and assessing risk (legal, regulatory and/or media) and co-ordinating a strategy for the defence of same.
- Manages the cost and performance of external counsel and assures cost effective and efficient delivery of legal services.
- Ensures timely updating of all matters within T360 in accordance with RBC Law Group procedures, reporting out internally on all matters as required and appropriate provisioning on all matters where the Senior Counsel is identified as the professional responsible for the litigation and as required by Finance.
- Provides legal support and advice to functional and business partners with respect to legislative developments of employment standards and other related federal, state and local laws.
- Manages HR-related investigations.
- Assists or leads ad hoc projects as directed.
- Works collaboratively with other members of the Global Employment Law Team.
What do you need to succeed?
- Must-have: Extensive employment law experience – Demonstrates proficient knowledge in employment law.
- Enterprise mindset, ability to understand global issues and operate in a global business.
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal partners, regulators, and external counsel.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills.
- Strong ability to balance competing work demands and manage multiple priorities.
- Understanding of a highly regulated industry and the complexity of decision making in a highly regulated environment operating across legal regimes and geographies.
- Law degree or similar/equivalent and/or qualified to practice law in England and Wales.
Nice to have:
- Good understanding of the relevant RBC businesses and their operations, including the market environment affecting the relevant RBC businesses.
- In-house legal experience an asset.
