What is the opportunity?

As a member of the RBC CFO Group in Europe, your purpose will be to support the Capital Markets and Wealth Management Europe platform finance teams to uphold the highest standards in controls and governance that underpin the control framework. You will report into the MD, Head of Capital Markets, Europe – within the CFO division.

You will achieve this by critically examining the control environment for areas of risk and championing control environment initiatives and enhancements. Effective team and stakeholder management will be essential, alongside a result/ output orientated, yet collaborative and adaptive leadership style.

The role represents an ideal opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the leadership challenges and opportunities of the Finance Function within the CFO Group, as well as developing an understanding of how our businesses operate within the legal entity framework and regulatory landscape.

RBC’s expectation is that from mid-September 2025, all employees and contractors will work in the office with some flexibility to work up to 1 day per week remotely, depending on working arrangements.

What will you do?

Support the European CFO and the senior leadership team across a variety of controls and governance related initiatives including risk and issue management, monitoring, and transformation.

Ensure controls operate in alignment with RBC policy and sufficiently meet regulatory requirements in parallel with driving continuous improvement in the control environment.

Establish processes, practices, and structures to guide decision-making, define responsibilities, and ensure accountability within the function and across the departments.

Accountable for the facilitation of committee meetings and preparation of quarterly legal entity functional updates including the production of risk and control measures and evaluating and communicating KPI outcomes to senior audiences.

Accountable for the monthly general ledger attestation review and challenge process, mitigating areas of risk by identifying the root cause and agreeing and tracking remediation activities, maintaining an open dialogue with Group Heads and the Chair.

Responsible maintaining collaborative relationships with FIAT and functional partners to support change across data, process, and technology whilst providing the appropriate level of operational and strategic functional direction to drive the forward-looking change agenda.

Apply a structured change management approach and methodology to all initiatives and projects within the remit and ensure benefits are embedded, realised, and captured.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Accounting/Finance degree or equivalent.

Professionally qualified accountant.

Relevant employment experience demonstrated by senior controller roles in Financial Services with change or project management accomplishments, including Agile or Project Management leadership.

Strong commercial acumen, knowledge and understanding of the key outputs and associated controls of the finance function, finance processes and Financial Services/banking processes.

Result orientated, yet collaborative and adaptive leadership style.

People management and team leadership.

Understanding of corporate governance and the Senior Management and Certification Regime.

Able to converse with people at every level of an organisation.

Nice-to-have

Big 4 public practice or top/ leading Financial Institution employment experience.
