BAM UK & Ireland's Infrastructure Segment are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Mechanical Site Engineer to join our friendly - Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project teams in Drax, North Yorkshire.

EGL2 is a 525k V, 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea and underground onshore transmission link with two HVDC convertor stations constructed at either end of the cable route.

The project once completed will transport green energy generated in Scotland through the EGL2 infrastructure to other parts of the UK where it is needed, providing enough electricity to power around two million homes.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale engineering project that plays a key role in delivering critical infrastructure, paving the way for future renewable developments across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation of the HVAC systems in an HVDC Converter Station consisting of climate control systems with AHUs, Dehumidifiers, HRUs, VRF and DX systems.
  • Direct and manage the subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient delivery of HVAC related packages.
  • Safety leadership: Implement and enforce safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, ensuring compliance with HSQE requirements.
  • Review subcontractor safety documentation: Check all subcontractor risk assessments, method statements, and safety documentation in accordance with company procedures before work commences and during execution.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines: Work closely with the electrical contractor and other specialist contractors to sequence M&E works and resolve interface issues.
  • Technical oversight: Ensure installations of plant and equipment (AHUs, Dehumidifiers, HRUs, VRF and DX systems) are completed to drawings, specifications, and regulations (DW/144 and CIBSE)
  • Programme and resource management: Assist in the allocation of labour, plant, and materials effectively, ensuring works are delivered to project schedules and milestones.
  • Quality assurance: Monitor workmanship and system installations, carrying out inspections and testing to ensure compliance with project specifications, standards, and client requirements.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate records, test and commissioning documentation, permits, material delivery logs, and progress reports.
  • Stakeholder communication: Liaise with project managers, engineers, quantity surveyors, safety officers, and clients to communicate progress, technical issues, and coordination requirements.
  • Support commissioning and handover: Oversee testing, inspections, and commissioning of the systems to ensure readiness for client handover.
  • Site professionalism: Maintain a professional site environment, ensuring areas are organised, safe, and meet client interface expectations.
  • Problem resolution: Rapidly address technical or workforce issues to prevent delays and maintain continuous progress.
  • Compliance oversight: Ensure statutory inspections, safety checks, and testing requirements are completed, documented, and reviewed.
  • Project contribution: Participate in meetings on safety, programme, resources, and progress to ensure HVAC systems integrate smoothly with the overall project.
