Our engineers lead the delivery of safe, profitable and technically excellent ground investigations across Scotland, providing the critical ground data that enables projects to be designed and constructed with confidence.
From renewable energy developments and electricity transmission infrastructure to transportation, water and major civil engineering projects, no two projects are the same.
Based in Scotland, you'll be part of a close-knit and highly experienced team, combining local knowledge with the resources, technical expertise, and opportunities available across BAM.
Ground investigation is a hands-on role, with projects across Scotland, including the Highlands, Islands, and other remote locations.
The role offers excellent variety and requires flexibility, including a willingness to work away from home when needed.

Making Possible
As a Ground Investigation Section Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning, supervision and delivery of ground investigation projects throughout Scotland.
Working alongside drill crews, project teams, clients and subcontractors, you will help ensure investigations are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and coordinating ground investigation works.
- Supervising drill crews and specialist subcontractors on site.
- Reviewing specifications, drawings and investigation requirements.
- Ensuring investigation locations are correctly set out and all necessary permits, clearances and approvals are in place before works commence.
- Managing health, safety and environmental performance.
- Supervising logging, sampling and in-situ testing activities.
- Managing AGS and digital data deliverables.
- Monitoring programme performance and resource requirements.
- Supporting the commercial performance of projects through programme monitoring, cost awareness and identification of risks and opportunities.
- Building positive relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
- Mentoring graduate and junior engineers.
- Providing technical input into tenders and work-winning activities.
What do you bring to the role?
- We would like to hear from candidates with experience in some of the following areas:
- Ground investigation site supervision.
- Engineering geology or geotechnical engineering.
- Soil and rock logging and sampling.
- In-situ testing and field data collection.
- Ground investigation reporting.
- AGS and digital data management.
- Managing site safety and safe systems of work.
- Coordinating site operations and project delivery.
- You will ideally hold a degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional registration, or a desire to work towards registration with ICE, the Geological Society or IOM3, would be advantageous.
