BAM UK&I are recruiting an FP&A Controller to join our construction segment from London or Hemel Hempstead office. This is a high-impact role at the heart of financial strategy, where you’ll shape performance and drive insight across a key BAM Segment. Reporting directly to the UK&I FP&A Director, you’ll take ownership of all FP&A activities for your segment. Acting as a critical bridge between Divisional Finance and the business unit for Balance Sheet, P&L and Cash Flow for both actuals and forecast.
In this dynamic position, you’ll deliver high-quality, value-driven management information that influences decision-making at both Divisional and Group level, while providing expert financial guidance to enhance performance and support strategic execution. You’ll also play a pivotal role in ensuring robust, efficient management reporting, insight and compliance—making a real, visible impact on both finance and the wider business.
Beyond this, the role plays a critical part in the evolution of finance through being a key enabler of change, helping to transform the function into a digitally enabled, efficient, insight-driven one, aligned to the future needs of the organisation and the industry.
Making Possible
The role is accountable for leading and driving the following:
- Leading and evolving FP&A for a core BAM Segment, taking full ownership of planning, forecasting, and performance management to drive smarter, faster decision-making.
- Orchestrating the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles, collaborating with Divisional FP&A and Business Controllers to deliver cohesive, insight-led plans.
- Taking end-to-end ownership of the Segment’s CTC forecasting, building robust, forward-looking projections that support strategic decisions.
- Taking end-to-end ownership of the consolidated cashflow forecasting and associated narrative.
- Partnering closely with the Segment Finance Director, playing a key role in the day-to-day leadership and direction of the finance function.
- Acting as a strategic connector between Divisional Finance and the business, connecting UK&I Divisional FP&A with Segment Business Unit Finance to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Partnering with business leaders to unlock value, providing expert financial guidance that shapes strategy and drives continuous improvement.
- Driving performance excellence across the segment, identifying opportunities, influencing outcomes, and embedding a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Drive best-in-class financial consolidation in SAP BPC, shaping powerful management insights and continuously optimising processes for accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure strong tax compliance in partnership with the UK&I Tax team, maintaining rigorous standards across Corporation Tax, PAYE, and VAT.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Segment Finance Manager, building capability and fostering a culture of growth and accountability.
- Deliver powerful financial insights to senior leadership, using modelling, forecasting, and profitability analysis to influence key decisions.
- Drive and support strategic initiatives and ad-hoc projects, contributing leadership and financial expertise where it matters most.
- Develop compelling business cases and ROI models, enabling confident investment and strategic decision-making.
- Provide external perspective through market and competitor analysis, translating data into actionable insight that strengthens competitive positioning.
Key activities
- Delivering insightful, high-impact management information that goes beyond reporting.
- Bringing clarity, foresight, and challenge to Segment and Divisional stakeholders against set performance metrics and translating financial insight into meaningful actions that accelerates predictable performance.
- Drive the finance narrative from end to end, creating a unified, compelling story and acting as the central hub for all finance-related insight and decision support.
- Championing continuous improvement and best-in-class management reporting and compliance across systems and processes, ensuring processes are not only accurate and efficient but also future-ready and scalable.
- Work closely with BAM Segment Finance Director, UK&I Divisional Finance teams and SSC to develop and implement a sound financial planning and management reporting framework that contributes to predictable financial performance of the business.
- Develop and implement clear financial planning and management reporting standards for the Business Unit Finance teams in the BAM Segment.
- Promotes the capture of best practice, systems development and knowledge sharing.

What do you bring to the role?
Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- 15 years + proven experience in FP&A, business partnering, or financial control roles
- Experience working in complex, matrix organisations (construction/infrastructure desirable)
- Strong track record in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
- Experience with SAP S4 HANA ERP systems and financial reporting tools
Technical Competencies
- Strong financial planning and analysis capability
- Advanced modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis skills
- Understanding of IFRS and financial control frameworks
- Data analytics and visualisation (e.g. Power BI or similar)
- Process improvement and systems mindset
