BAM UK & Ireland's Infrastructure segment are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Sustainability Advisor (Carbon) to assist in carbon management within our Infrastructure business. This role is responsible for whole life carbon assessment and reporting in accordance with PAS 2080, for a range of civil engineering projects located in Yorkshire and the North East. The successful candidate will value being part of teams that deliver innovative carbon reduction solutions that make a real difference. The role will initially be focused on flood defence schemes and thereby combines carbon reduction with climate adaptation. The role sits within BAM’s growing Social Infrastructure, Nuclear and Defence business unit and offers excellent career progression opportunities within our sustainability team.

  • Work Pattern: Hybrid, expected to attend office / site 3 days per week (negotiable)

Making Possible

As Environmental Sustainability Advisor (Carbon), you will be responsible for the following:

  • Collect carbon data from projects and procurement activities and input into the specified carbon assessment tool/s.
  • Check input data and outputs for accuracy.
  • Visit projects across the Yorkshire and North East and work closely with the project teams to reduce carbon.
  • Advocate for low carbon design and construction solutions on projects.
  • Facilitate carbon reduction workshops and other means of collaboration and engagement.
  • Record carbon reduction opportunities, produce case studies for projects and share information and lessons learnt for continuous improvement.
  • Represent BAM in both internal and client-facing meetings focussed on carbon solutions and performance reporting.

What do you bring to the role?

Essential

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in sustainability, engineering, or related subject
  • Strong in problem-solving and critical-thinking to analyse results and report on findings
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong Excel and data handling skills
  • Good written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally nationally
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills

Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking carbon assessment of infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of construction processes and infrastructure projects
  • Membership of a professional environmental or engineering institution
