The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. We are in the midst of a major programme of work which will bring together a range of energy and sustainability initiatives, infrastructure replacement works, and individual projects which will help to transform the working environment across our estate.

Like much of the RBO estate, the technical estate was installed in 1999 and is now reaching the end of its life or has been superseded by technological advancements. The Technical Estate Renewal Team is underway in a multiyear upgrade of all the technical stage systems in the building. Ongoing and future works include upgrades of stage machinery, stage lighting, sound, video, and broadcast equipment, all delivered in close cooperation with operational colleagues working around a demanding rehearsal and performance schedule.

This newly created Electrician role is critical to carrying out enabling works, installation of temporary electrical systems, electrical upgrades and the removal of obsolete existing cabling and electrical systems as well as proactive and reactive maintenance. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced electrician who can be a subject matter expert and work across a range of projects independently.

  • Diploma or NVQ in electrical systems
  • BS7671: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City and Guilds 2382-22)
  • Training and experience in the use and operation of mobile elevating work platforms
  • Experience of electrical works in entertainment or commercial spaces
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
  • Experience with electrical containment and associated fire compartmentation practices

Please note, this role will be required on site for overnight maintenance and installation works. There is also a summer maintenance period where holiday is embargoed throughout July and August.

The Royal Ballet and Opera is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our organisation. As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential minimum criteria for our vacancies.

A full job description and RBO information pack is attached below. If you have any access requirements for your application, please contact the RBO Recruitment Team.

Closing date for applications: 8am, Monday 7th April 2025.
