Founded in 1841, RAD is one of the oldest charities working with deaf people in the UK. Celebrating deaf culture and community is an essential part of what we do. With deaf people, and in collaboration with others, we innovate and deliver services that deaf people want and need.

We are looking to recruit a new Trustees to join our Board, for an initial term of three years, with the potential to extend for one further term. Following a recent skills audit, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:

β€’ Fundraising: events fundraising, social investment, and developing commercial or traded income streams

β€’ Charity operations: charity management, knowledge of the charity sector, and networks with other charities, businesses and organisations

β€’ Digital: digital strategy and leadership, cyber security, GDPR, digital accessibility and IT procurement

β€’ Safeguarding and services: safeguarding, social work or social care, and experience of training centres or education, particularly in relation to Deaf Advance

Alongside personal and professional credibility, you will have the ability to contribute to constructive discussion and debate, have a positive attitude and a desire to make a real difference to the lives of deaf people, acting as an ambassador for the community. You will need to be eligible to be a company director and have the time to dedicate to this important role.

We recognise the positive value of diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds.

This role is unpaid although out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings per year, along with further training days, strategy meetings and sub-committee meetings as necessary. Additional time to support the activities of the organisation through expert guidance and/or participation in events and activities will be encouraged.

If you are interested in applying, please complete an application form. You have the option of submitting your supporting statement in BSL or English, letting us know why you would like to join RAD's board of trustees.
