The predicted salary is between 12 - 15 £ per hour.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Museum Assistant to join the existing Visitor Services team. This position reports to the Visitor Services Supervisors.

Hours & Contract

This position is for a 5-month temporary contract, from June 2026 to November 2026. 14 hours per week. Saturday/Sunday during term time, changing to Sunday/Monday during school holidays. The role will be predominantly office based.

Job Description

Operational

  • To always deliver outstanding levels of visitor service and always put the visitor first.
  • To be the face of the museum, welcoming all visitors to the museum at Front of House.
  • To provide information about exhibits and the museum in an interesting, informative and accessible way.
  • To patrol all galleries to ensure the security of the collection.
  • To always ensure the safety of visitors and evacuate the museum when required in accordance with the museums policies and procedures.
  • To ensure all security checks are completed on a daily basis.
  • To identify and report security risks and potential hazards.
  • To monitor and maintain standards of cleanliness and repair in the galleries.
  • To fully support reception duties when required including responding to visitors’ enquiries and online feedback.
  • To operate the object handling station while maintaining the safety of both visitors and the collection.
  • To provide support stewarding shows both in our inside and outside performance spaces.
  • To make public announcements when required via the public address system.
  • To undertake any other tasks reasonable commensurate with the job role.

Commercial

  • To promote commercial areas of the museum and encourage fundraising to meet steep targets.
  • To operate commercial areas of the museum such as the Crossbow Challenge, handling money and ensuring the health and safety of all visitors and staff.
  • To promote products and services to visitors such as Guidebooks, and contribute towards steep commercial targets.
  • To process transactions accurately in line with the cash handling procedures.
  • To support and help promote the Escape Room experience to visitors.
