The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire. We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Curator of Arms & Armour to join the existing team. The position is fixed term for 2 years. Reporting to the Curator of Asian & African Collections.

Hours: 36 hours 5 / 7 days nominally Monday to Friday. The role will predominantly be office based in Leeds but some travel may be necessary.

Your main duties will be adding to the publicly available stock of knowledge of the European Edged Weapons, European Armour and Asian & African collections through cataloguing, and promoting the subject through answering enquiries. You will also assist Curators and Keepers in the day-to-day management of the collections, provide collections access and assist with exhibitions and research.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working at museums and be passionate and knowledgeable about arms and armour. They will be an excellent team player who is accountable, open, thorough, adaptable and who possesses initiative.
