About The Role: The Health and Safety Manager (HSM) is the competent person under the Management of H& S at Work Regulations. The HSM assists the RAF Association and its subsidiaries in complying with all relevant legislation and Approved Codes of Practice. Responsibilities include developing health and safety policies, supporting risk assessments, implementing safe systems of work, auditing, reporting on compliance, promoting a positive health and safety culture, and more.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Agree an annual work programme and objectives with the Group Company Secretary and the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Assist and advise managers to identify hazards, record and implement risk controls, including training, procedures, equipment, control of contractors, and local inspection regimes.
  • Work with the Estates Team on the selection and management of specialist contractors; arrange for specialists to conduct fire risk assessments where we are responsible.
  • Manage accident and incident recording systems, review reports to ensure suitable investigations and remedial actions; report incidents under RIDDOR and liaise with enforcing authorities.
  • Produce annual compliance reports for all Group undertakings, showing performance against key health and safety targets.
  • Provide fleet management support: manage driver authorisation, maintain vehicle register, ensure legal requirements are met.

About You: Minimum Level 3 qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) and experience in a similar role within a multi‑site organisation. Extensive knowledge of workplace Health and Safety legislation and practical solutions; experience developing policies and procedures. Leadership skills desirable; line‑manage the RAFAKidz Health and Safety Officer. Willingness to travel occasionally (travel expenses paid). Flexible with working hours; hybrid working with at least one day per week at Leicester Head Office.
