Job Description

Security and Welfare Officer

Location: Cirencester, GL7 6JS

Grade 4: £24,215 – £27,319 per annum

Permanent: Full-time

Hours: average 35hours per week full-time: flexibility required for night shifts, working a 4 on 4 off rota pattern to include weekends and bank holidays.

The Role

Working as part of the Security and Welfare team within the Estates and IT directorate to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors, the team provide a reassuring, supportive and welcoming presence delivering the highest level of customer service and satisfaction, whilst also protecting and caring for the RAU estate and buildings.

There may be opportunities to work additional hours/overtime to cover for colleagues’ absences, and to assist during busy periods and events.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols, promptly addressing security and safety issues
  • Provide first point of contact support during out-of-hours, prioritizing welfare incidents
  • Monitor and maintain health, safety, and maintenance standards
  • Supervise access to residences, ensuring compliance with procedures
  • Respond efficiently to fire alarms and coordinate with emergency services
  • Deliver exceptional reception service, handling calls, visitor management, and administrative tasks

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Good standard of education (GCSE or equivalent)
  • Previous security/customer service experience desirable
  • Customer-oriented approach with excellent communication and customer care skills
  • Basic computer literacy, including MS Office proficiency
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Possess a current valid driving licence or access to transport/equivalent mobility
  • A good level of fitness to be able to patrol the University grounds, buildings and to lift reasonable objects
  • SIA – Security Industry Authority licence (full training can be provided and the licence can be applied for by the University)
