Security and Welfare Officers Salary: Starting at £24,215 progressing to £27,319 per annum Type: Permanent, Full-time Hours: Average 35 hours per week full-time: flexibility required for night shifts, working a 4 on 4 off rota pattern to include weekends and bank holidays. The Role The Security and Welfare Officers work as part of the Security and Welfare team within the IT & Estates directorate to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors. The team provide a reassuring, supportive and welcoming presence delivering the highest level of customer service and satisfaction, whilst also protecting and caring for the RAU estate and buildings. There may be opportunities to work additional hours/overtime to cover for colleagues’ absences, and to assist during busy periods and events. Responsibilities * Conduct regular patrols, promptly addressing security and safety issues * Provide first point of contact support during out-of-hours, prioritizing welfare incidents * Monitor and maintain health, safety, and maintenance standards * Supervise access to residences, ensuring compliance with procedures * Respond efficiently to fire alarms and coordinate with emergency services * Produce coherent and factual nightly reports and write up witness statements to support these * Deliver exceptional reception service, handling calls, visitor management, and administrative tasks Qualifications, Skills and Experience * Good standard of education (GCSE or equivalent) * Previous security/customer service experience desirable * Customer-oriented approach with excellent communication and customer care skills * Basic computer literacy, including MS Office proficiency * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Possess a current valid driving licence or access to transport/equivalent mobility * A good level of fitness to be able to patrol the University grounds, buildings and to lift reasonable objects * SIA – Security Industry Authority licence (full training can be provided and the licence can be applied for by the University) Benefits * 30 days annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays * Pension Scheme * Free parking on-site * Discounted catering facilities * Discounted on-site gym. * Free library services * Employee Assistance Programme * Occupational Health and Counselling Services * Cycle to Work Scheme * Staff Development Opportunities To Apply If you feel you are a suitable candidate and would like to work for The Royal Agricultural University, please click apply to be redirected to our website to complete your application.
