The Recording Department plays a vital role in the delivery of this experience by supporting the programmes of study, the Academy’s programme of artistic events, and the professional development of its students. Working flexibly within a small team, you will be a well-organised individual with excellent inter-personal skills, and the ability to deal with students from a wide range of backgrounds.

The Recording Engineer is responsible for the technical production of recorded and live music, with a particular focus on classical music recording but also embracing jazz live sound, music technology for composition, video production and post-production skills. The post holder will work on a wide range of events where professional audio or video expertise is required, either alone or as part of a team.

By providing technical services of the highest professional standard, the Recording Engineer will play a critical role in the successful delivery of many important academic and/or public events, making a vital contribution to student success as well as the Academy’s public reputation. Additionally, the Recording Engineer will be actively involved in maintaining and developing the AV equipment throughout the Academy’s venues and production facilities, ensuring the technology keeps pace with relevant professional standards and the requirements of both staff and student users.

Listed below are the main accountabilities of this role. However, this list is not exhaustive and may change in accordance with organisational needs and in consultation with the post holder.

• Record/film concerts and arrange the editing, mastering, and archiving of these recordings.
• Provide audio and audio-visual technical support for Academy courses and events.
• Offer a professional recording and production service for Academy students and staff.
• Maintain a high standard of recording production, equipment and facilities.
• Provide and operate any audio-visual or related equipment for concerts and events.
• Maintain recording facilities for student and staff use as required.
• Provide technical advice and training to students and staff.
