Philanthropy plays a significant role in the life of the Academy and supports our mission to develop and educate the musicians of tomorrow. The Royal Academy of Music’s Future campaign was launched in 2022 with a target of £60m, making it the most ambitious campaign for a conservatoire outside the US. Having exceeded that target, we extended the Campaign to £100 million.
We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative Deputy Director of Philanthropy (Donor Relations, Communications and Operations) to join the Academy’s highly successful Advancement team. You will lead the ‘engine room’ of the Philanthropy team and ensure all support systems are in place for effective fundraising in this role, at the helm of Donor Relations and Operations.
With a strong background in leading teams, regular giving and high-quality written output, you will have delegated authority, along with the parallel Deputy in High Value Giving, from the Director of Philanthropy, in performing this leadership role. You will take a major role in future planning and will be responsible for promoting organisational culture including departmental best practice and policies.
To be successful in this role you will be a fantastic team manager, strategist and communicator, with the ability to turn strategy into action. You will have excellent data and project management skills, with an exceptional ability to communicate progress to colleagues at all levels. You will understand what makes for excellent stewardship and you will know what it takes to deliver stand-out fundraising events and individual giving initiatives.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a passionate and highly committed team. Experience working in the arts and/or higher education would be an advantage. A commitment to the Academy’s mission is essential.
First round interviews are expected to take place online on Friday 11 July 2025 with second round interviews on-site Friday 18 July 2025. Enquiries or applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted. The Academy is committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all students. We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates, and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups in these roles. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to greater results for students. The Academy values diversity and welcomes your application.
