Are you an exceptional senior prop maker with experience in a construction workshop? Do you have excellent CAD drawing skills together with practical knowledge of 3D printing? Can you work creatively with a wide range of materials to produce everything from handmade crocodile sculptures to beautifully crafted calligraphy, delicate miniature puppets, and enchanting potion bottles? This is a wonderful role for a highly experienced Prop Maker to help with delivering innovative, high quality and sustainable stage props for productions across all RSC stages.

Based in our Scenic Workshops, in Stratford-upon-Avon, you will play a key role in leading the small and effective team, mentoring others and deputising for the Head of Props. With an exciting upcoming artistic programme for 2026, you will work with and support the creative vision of designers and directors, whilst ensuring efficient, safe and cost-effective operations. Reporting to the Head of Props, key areas of responsibility include:

  • Overseeing workshop-based props construction
  • Designing, making and repairing props
  • Producing CAD drawings and samples for rehearsal and production
  • Advising on construction methods, materials and design viability
  • Attending production meetings, rehearsals and show fit ups
  • Leading and coordinating the team and deputising for the Head of Props

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Significant experience as a senior prop maker in a construction workshop
  • Exceptional CAD drawing skills (Fusion 360 or Inventor) and 3D printing knowledge
  • Demonstrable experience in woodworking, casting, fibreglass, upholstery, sewing and stage illusion
  • Expert understanding of period furniture and props
  • Proven experience of developing team members
  • A commitment to health and safety and sustainable working practices

This position is a full-time, permanent opportunity based in Stratford-upon-Avon. You will be working 44 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am until 5pm with occasional evenings and Saturdays.
