Cataloguing & Subscriptions Librarian

Full-Time On-site
Royal Academy Of Dance

We are a world leader in dance education and a prestigious awarding body. RAD’s mission is to inspire the world to dance. Based in our vibrant Battersea headquarters, close to the Thames and Clapham Junction, our studios and offices offer an energetic and inspiring place to work.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Cataloguing and Subscriptions Librarian to join our Library & Archive department at the RAD Headquarters in Battersea. In this key permanent role, you will be responsible for managing serials and subscriptions, resource cataloguing and classification, and helping deliver high-quality information services to dance scholars, researchers, students, and the global public. You will play a vital role in keeping our collections accessible, supporting user research, and assisting with day-to-day library operations.

Please note home-working is not available for this role, and there are some short periods where annual leave is unable to be granted.

Key Responsibilities

Cataloguing & Classification: Prepare and maintain catalogue records for print, digital, and AV materials using Liberty software, in-house classification schemes, and Universal Decimal Classification.

Subscriptions & Serials: Monitor print and digital subscriptions, manage access and binding, promote online resources, and work within set budgets.

Library & Information Services: Handle research enquiries from distance-learning students and external researchers, cover the Welcome Desk, and guide users on search techniques and copyright compliance.

Training & Community: Conduct engaging library inductions and refresher sessions (both in-person and online), create video user guides, and host RAD Book Club sessions.

Operations & Cover: Assist with circulation duties, update database records, and cover scheduled late-night openings or team members when required.

What we are looking for

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

An appropriate Library qualification (or equivalent practical experience) with demonstrable experience in library cataloguing, classification, and managing serials databases.

Strong proficiency in library management systems, electronic information services, Microsoft Office, and screen capture tools for producing video guides.

Excellent verbal and written English skills, with the confidence to lead group inductions, present on camera, and deliver outstanding customer service.

High levels of accuracy, meticulous attention to detail, and sound knowledge of standard cataloguing and classifying conventions.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team while demonstrating self-motivation, proactivity, and the ability to work independently.

Why work for us?

We are passionate about providing a positive workplace culture. Our accessible London (Wandsworth / Battersea) studios and offices are conveniently located, with facilities such as the Café and Library onsite.

We offer 25 days paid holiday (pro rata) plus bank holidays and a birthday day off, contributory pension scheme, access to the Perkbox discounts platform, life assurance, WeCare scheme and a health cash plan including access to 24/7 online GP, counselling, an Employee Assistance Programme, health assessments and other wellbeing resources and perks and in-house free movement classes.

Due to the nature of the RAD’s work, the successful candidate will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Applications which do not include a full employment history, and reference details will not be taken forward to the shortlisting stage.

All colleagues are required to promote and safeguard the welfare of children they are responsible for, or come into contact with, and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the RADs Safeguarding Policy at all times.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with a disability, people from minority ethnic backgrounds, and people from the LGBTQIA+ community.

Please let us know if you have any access needs for the interview.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and bring relevant documents if invited to attend an interview. We are unable to sponsor people under the Skilled Worker scheme.
