Overview

The Royal Shakespeare Company is looking to appoint a AssistantStage Manager for its production of My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

This position is offered initially as a fixed term contract until October 2026, commencing on 27 October 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Stage Management Team to maintain the production to the highest standard throughout its run.
  • Manage all props and furniture, ensuring they are consistently presented, handled and maintained with precision.
  • Liaise with other technical departments to uphold the creative integrity and operational efficiency of the show.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Stage Manager, running a large-scale live theatre production with a large cast and multiple automated and manual scenic elements.
  • Previous experience of props maintenance on a large-scale show.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Additional responsibilities (Book Cover and/or Stage Manager Cover)

This ASM role has the potential to include Book Cover and/or Stage Manager Cover responsibilities, which can be discussed further during the interview. We welcome applications from candidates interested in the role, whether they wish to take on one or both additional responsibilities.

Book Cover – Desired Criteria

  • Previous experience in calling a busy, automated, large-scale theatre production, including calling to music.
  • Proven ability to remain calm and adaptable during live performances, particularly when adjustments to cueing are needed due to technical variations.

Stage Manager Cover – Desired Criteria

  • Previous experience in stepping into a stage manager track as needed, demonstrating an understanding of the shows technical requirements and seamlessly covering the required levels of responsibility.

Location and Dates

My Neighbour Totoro plays at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London.
