As part of its provision printmaking is a central aspect of the RA Schools teaching that builds upon the history of its long standing engagement with print based artists and print’s continuing and evolving contemporary relevance as a Fine Art medium.

About This Role

Working with the students, the printmaking Tutors will collaborate daily on the production and presentation of artworks that utilise print techniques in all its various manifestations ranging from etching, relief print, mono printing and screen printing and other hybrid fine art applications. Situated in the printmaking workshop, adjacent to a complimentary digital print workshop, it is a crucial part of the extended suite of RA Schools workshops within which the Printmaking Tutor will work with students, staff and guest artists on the creation of various print centred art practices and publishing projects as part of the extended workshops team.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will be an excellent communicator with a specialist interest, awareness and knowledge of contemporary Fine Art practices, and an advanced understanding of the technical specifics and vocabulary of fine art printmaking.

You will have proven knowledge of techniques and mediums including etching, engraving, wood block, collagraph, mono print and screen, together with previous experience working in an Art school environment or related industrial print bureau with a history of collaboration with students/ clients. The ability to confidently instruct students and pass on knowledge through one-to-one technical tuition is key to the success of this post.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the latest developments in new materials, non-toxic and environmentally responsible approaches to safe and clean print production.

The Company

The RA dates way back to 1768 when a group of artists and architects persuaded King George lll to help them to ‘establish a society for promoting the Art of Design\’. The original academy, in Pall Mall, was less than 10 meters long. Since then, there have been many changes, though the RA’s core purpose of bringing art and design to a broad audience and championing art and artists still holds true.

Today we are a contemporary art organisation hosting internationally acclaimed exhibitions and through investment in employee training and development, with courses such as Unconscious Bias, LGBTQ+ Awareness, Bystander, and Mental Health First Aid training, we are striving to foster a safe space for everyone through positive action.
