The Vacancy
Please note, this role is offered on a casual contract with flexible, ad-hoc work on weekdays, weekends, bank holidays, and public holidays. The Royal Academy of Arts is under no obligation to offer you hours.
About The Role
The Events Team manages numerous events across the Royal Academy, including opening receptions, private views, lectures, and corporate or private events. It also supports the wider organisation, ensuring the smooth running of the RA’s public and members’ events.
As an Events Welcome Host, you will perform a variety of tasks to support this work, always remaining personable and presentable. You will provide information, assistance, and reassurance to guests throughout their visit. Tasks may include welcoming visitors, providing wayfinding guidance, in-gallery support, cloakroom assistance, scanning tickets, checking in guests, and queue management. The role is fast-paced and involves extensive communication with our audience, including high-profile guests and supporters of the RA.
About You
You will be a dynamic, customer-focused individual who prioritizes the needs of a diverse audience. An art or curatorial background is not essential.
You will possess excellent customer-facing skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people. You should be adaptable, friendly, helpful, and able to provide a warm welcome, proactive assistance, and clear information to all visitors and staff.
You should demonstrate a genuine interest in people and be capable of engaging with a high volume of visitors. While an appreciation for the arts is beneficial, a passion for contributing to the RA’s story is more important.
Events are primarily scheduled on weekdays from 8am to 10am or 6pm to 9pm, with additional time for briefing, setup, and takedown. The minimum shift length is 4 hours.
