Roxel is an Anglo‑French company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Operations are based across several sites in the UK and France, with an annual turnover of about £250 M and nearly 1,000 staff.

We have a requirement for a permanent Product Development Bid Engineer reporting to the Chief Engineer within the Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for scoping and compiling key aspects of new rocket motor development and production programmes to support customer enquiries, and for developing and maturing the cross‑functional tools, templates, and systems of working used by Roxel UK bid teams to deliver bids faster and more robustly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creation of Bids for New Engineering Programmes (~50%)
    • Develop an in‑depth understanding of Roxel’s rocket motor development / New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle
    • Review, understand, and analyse all requirements related to a customer enquiry
    • Attend and contribute to discussions with potential external customers
    • Attend and contribute to Customer Requirements Reviews
    • Work as part of a multi‑functional bid team to produce a costed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the proposed programme
    • Identify opportunities to deliver the proposed programme quicker and at a lower cost whilst still meeting key requirements
    • Create Anticipated Compliance Matrices against the customer’s technical requirements
    • Create Technical Proposal documentation
    • Attend and lead Technical Proposal Reviews
    • Attend and contribute to Bid Reviews
  • Develop Roxel UK’s Bid Compilation Process and Product Development Process (~50%)
    • Develop an awareness of other NPI models used across the aerospace and defence industries
    • Identify opportunities and ways of working to reduce the time and costs of NPI programmes at Roxel UK
    • Work cross‑functionally to produce tools and templates to help bid teams create costed programmes quicker, cheaper, and more robustly
    • Update Roxel’s QMS processes associated with bid compilation to improve clarity on roles / responsibilities (using a RACI structure) and the use of tools / templates / historic data
Experience and Background Qualifications
  • A formal qualification (degree or equivalent) in an Engineering or Chemistry related field
  • Essential Experience
    • Experience working in an engineering product development role
    • Experience of scoping, compiling, and costing proposed engineering development programmes in line with customer requirements
    • IT literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
    • Knowledge of document/report writing
    • An ability to assimilate and evaluate technical information from a wide range of disciplines
    • An ability to present complex information clearly and logically to specialist and non‑specialist engineers
  • Desirable Experience
    • An interest in business and commercial awareness
    • Knowledge of trials/assessment testing (e.g. structural testing, vibration, etc.)

Salary and Additional Benefits

Salary Band: £30,818 to £44,576 per annum
