Roxel is an Anglo-French company that designs, develops and manufactures solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover over Β£200M and nearly 1000 staff, 300 in the UK. The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield Kidderminster where we currently have two Manufacturing Engineer vacancies.
Based on the Design Specification, Production Engineering are responsible for the industrialisation of the manufacturing process including but not exhaustively β Process Flow, MBOM, Production Layout, Material Flow (including packaging design / buffer quantities to support consistent output) and Manufacturing Method.
Creation of Capital justification supporting business case approval for customer funded and internal projects. Delivery of high-quality products/components to clearly defined standards. Responsible for the specification, installation, commissioning and approval of new equipment in accordance to relevant standards, managing contractors and ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. The role is also responsible for budgetary management, identification and implementation of continuous improvement through processes, working practices and competence levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Responsibilities:
- Design/Specify, source and commission production systems to deliver product on time, to quality requirements and cost
- Production capacity planning and forecasting
- Support continuous improvement activities in quality with ownership of improvement plans for cycle times, touch times and process improvement through the use of lean techniques and value engineering to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste
- Ensure urgent reaction to production stoppages and provide technical support to daily operational review meetings
- Perform root cause analysis and implementation of permanent corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with Change Management Controls
- Providing the relevant Production Engineering forecast requirements of Hours/materials/other costs to Sales and Marketing to support BID costing process
- Provide relevant support portfolio including routing, manufacturing costs, MBOMS
- Creation of Capital justifications supporting business case approval for customer funded and internal projects
- Conduct feasibility review and introduce improvements to reduce material usage
- Review standards and actuals of projects ensuring OTOCOQ and delivering to forecast
- Deployment of APQP for new developments and changes in accordance with EN9100 and QMS
- Deployment of Lean Manufacturing toolkit to deliver Continuous Improvement and Operational excellence
- Analyse downtime, identify trends and develop solutions
- Produce written reports and make presentations
- Undertake continuous training and development
- Ensure consideration of COSHH, ITAR, COMAH, PUWER legislation and compliance thereof
- Ensure safety requirements are understood and through consideration of COSHH, ITAR, COMAH, PUWER legislation and compliance thereof legal requirements are met
- Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
- Conduct/develop process PFMEAβs and carry out MRL
Relationship Management:
- Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the manufacturing strategy
- Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potential effects on manufacturing design and development
- Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost
- Stay current and up to date on any technology changes that may affect manufacturing design and development and advise others of any impact
