Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £250M and nearly 1000 staff, with 300 in the UK. The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield, Kidderminster where we now have a requirement for a Senior Buyer.
The Procurement Team provide, acquire, and buy solutions from external suppliers, to ensure that Roxel UK can meet its customer needs in a results driven environment. The function manages the supplier identification and selection through to securing pricing; setting up supplier agreements for goods/services and purchase orders for all production and non-production requirements including major CAPEX/Construction investments.
Working within the Procurement Team, the Senior Buyer will provide procurement solutions to the Business with sustainable and competitive sources for all Direct/Production needs across a portfolio of suppliers. The role is aided by our ERP system (Tropos) and process flow tools in Dynamic. All activity is governed by the business processes within our QMS to an EN 9100 standard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing procurement solutions for the business and managing own portfolio, including placing purchase orders; generating RFQs/obtaining quotes; managing purchase orders and drafting/finalising supplier agreements; supplier management; risk management.
- Managing suppliers by using defined KPIs and conducting supplier business reviews and regular meetings with suppliers.
- Visiting suppliers externally, acting as an ambassador for Roxel.
- Maintaining strong & effective relationships with suppliers to be able to resolve any disputes and poor performance.
- Maintaining and providing data and analysis to produce monthly metrics reporting packs.
- Undertaking the necessary transactions to generate purchase orders.
- Undertaking supplier onboarding to assess and approve new and existing suppliers.
- Managing NDAs & Supplier Agreements in accordance with business processes (including subsequent communication between Roxel and suppliers).
- Negotiating terms and conditions that provide the best solution for Roxel UK.
- Delivering procurement services in line with agreed standards and processes.
- Assisting in resolving any issues with invoices with the support of the Finance team.
- When required, assisting in supporting Sales and Marketing in Bid Management and certifying that bids to Customers are underpinned with robust and valid Supplier quotations in accordance with Roxel procedures.
- Actively identifying and managing risk across a portfolio of suppliers (including risks relating to REACH & European regulations).
- Taking responsibility for workload, prioritising and communicating. Escalating to Manager if any risks or issues arise.
- Identifying opportunities for cost savings, measures and reports savings on a monthly basis with annual targets to meet.

- Proficient administration, numerical and organisational skills, able to organise and deliver multiple tasks to target.
- Strong focus on Customer Services with all stakeholders. Real emphasis on proactive communication at all times.
- A sound commercial and financial understanding.
- Working knowledge of the category management process including the necessary contracting and project management.
- Experience of managing projects and working to deadlines.
- Demonstrable experience of working within a Procurement function at a strategic level.
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
- Proven experience in the use of ERP systems such as SAP; Tropos etc.
- Manufacturing background would be beneficial.
- Previous experience working within the defence industry.
- Knowledge of UK Government Security Classifications.
- Understanding of REACH regulations, Import/Export Control regulations and legislation.
- Demonstrated understanding of EN9100 or experience of working within a company to this standard.
