Role Summary
The Finance Manager – Project Accounting will oversee the financial management of various projects, manage and mentor a small team of project accountants, and ensure seamless integration between Programmes and financial accounting functions. The role is also responsible for developing process and policy aligning to best practices, driving process improvements, and supporting strategic financial planning to ensure project profitability and organisational success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote zero harm objective by operating in accordance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies to ensure safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors and support SWIM.
- Ensure safe methods of work are utilised in all processes targeting zero harm.
- Ensure Health and Safety standards are fully communicated and understood by relevant stakeholders.
- Project accounting oversight: manage full project lifecycle financially, including budget setup, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting; ensure compliance with company policies and IFRS15.
- Weekly sales forecast data; monthly Contract Status Report (CSR); project cash flow forecasts including payment plan agreements with customers; variance analysis to budgets; hedging of foreign payments; support customer invoicing; prepare quarterly estimates at completions (EAC) inline with IFRS15 / FRS102; track Variation of Price indices and annual invoicing; support annual budgets / 5-year plan; involve in bids and order intake to understand financial risk and rewards.
- Liaise with Programmes Managers and other stakeholders to implement best practices for project financial tracking, analysis, and reporting.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements; design and deliver training sessions on best practices, systems, and compliance; train project accounting team and project managers.
- Create and maintain a collaborative link with financial accounting department to support accurate cash forecasting, budget preparation, and 5-year financial plan.
- Prepare and present comprehensive project financial reports, including variance analysis, to senior management and stakeholders; provide insights and recommendations.
- Ensure all project accounting activities are audit‑ready and support internal and external audits.
- Perform any other duties necessary as requested by the business.
People Management
- Set SMART objectives and ensure expectations are clear to maximise productivity and target achievement.
- Support and document team development via regular performance reviews.
- Target 100% attendance; monitor and manage attendance; conduct return‑to‑work interviews and absence reviews.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels by managing leave requests.
- Address and resolve performance issues promptly; use informal counselling to disciplinary hearings as appropriate.
- Implement training and development activities to encourage multi‑skilling and reduce single‑point failures.
- Provide training and guidance to employees for relevant processes.

- Support and mentor the team in troubleshooting techniques.
- Encourage teamwork and sharing of best practices.
Experience and Background
Qualification
Essential Qualifications
- Professional qualification such as CIMA / ACCA or equivalent.
- IT literate, advanced Excel and MRP Systems.
- L3 ILM Qualification or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
- IOSH Managing Safety Qualification or willingness to work toward it.
Experience
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years post qualification experience.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team: set objectives, conduct reviews, coach, train, drive performance.
- Proven experience in process improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems and project management tools (Primavera / SAAP / Kinetic / TROPOS).
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge/experience in project accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and project management methodologies.
- Experience managing within an EN9100 or Quality Management System culture.
