We continue to develop our growing department and are looking for a Senior Management Accountant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys producing high-quality management information and working closely with business clients. While experience within an accountancy practice is not essential, it would be advantageous and will bring additional variety to the role, as you will work with a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple industries.

The role is focused on delivering timely and insightful management accounts and financial information to support client decision-making. It will suit someone who enjoys the regular and structured nature of management accounting work. We are looking for a self‑motivated and driven individual seeking a new challenge within a growing and ambitious team. The successful candidate should possess both strong technical ability and excellent interpersonal skills.

You will be a key member of our Finance and Business Solutions team, which provides digital and outsourced accounting services to clients through the use of cloud accounting and supporting technologies. These services include virtual office support for VAT and bookkeeping, management accounts preparation, financial forecasting, Virtual FD support, software reviews and system implementations, and other ad‑hoc client requirements. The role will have a particular focus on the benefits of cloud accounting for clients, specifically Xero, and there will be opportunities to help champion the use of technology and improve internal processes.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with the management team to drive projects forward. You must be able to work to deadlines and be flexible when managing multiple clients across different industries.

The main responsibilities of the position are, but will not be limited to:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients operating in a wide range of business sectors
  • Managing a small portfolio of clients and taking responsibility for the regular work assigned to you and managing those deadlines
  • Training and mentoring junior members of staff in bookkeeping and accounting processes
  • Supporting the development of the wider team in response to the department’s growth and the evolving accounting landscape
  • Taking ownership of more complex management accounts assignments and assisting with a range of client-related tasks
  • Reviewing client accounting records and identifying any issues or adjustments required
  • Processing accounting adjustments including accruals, prepayments and other period‑end adjustments
  • Posting journals for payroll, depreciation and other financial transactions
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts for a portfolio of clients
  • Analysing financial performance and providing clear commentary and insights to clients
  • Discussing financial results and business performance directly with clients to support informed decision‑making
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts, budgets and financial projections
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
  • Supporting bookkeeping functions where required

Skills required:

  • Professional qualification (such as AAT, ACA or ACCA) or qualified by experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Strong systems experience, including accounting software such as Sage, Xero, Dext and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to clients
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle to visit client premises when required
