Rowden Surgery has a rare opportunity for an experienced Practice nurse to join our friendly and growing nursing team. We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual with experience in Diabetes and general Practice Nurse duties within a GP practice or healthcare setting. Applicants must have a Diabetic diploma or equivalent and post registration practice nurse experience. Hours are negotiable for the right candidate, with some weekend working as part of our extended access service. Main duties will include:
- Undertaking annual diabetic reviews
- Initiating and adjusting medication in line with agreed protocols
- Providing advice and guidance to other members of the clinical team
- Responding to patient queries
- Working closely with local diabetes services to improve patient outcomes
- Attending and contributing to regular team meetings
Depending on experience, there will also be opportunities to broaden the role through a range of treatment room duties, including vaccinations, wound dressings, injections and other routine nursing procedures.

Made up of 22 dedicated professionals, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Specialist Nurses, Nursing Associates and Healthcare Assistants, the team works closely with our doctors to provide excellent clinical care and patient support. We are a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking practice where teamwork, respect and professional development are highly valued.
Job responsibilities include:
- Assessing, planning and monitoring care for patients
- Promoting health and wellbeing within the practice and PCN population
- Working with GPs, Nurse Manager, Partners, practice staff, and other members of the wider healthcare team
- Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations
- Maintaining high standards of nursing care in accordance with the NMC Code of professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses
- Planning and running health promotion and disease related clinics
- Facilitating patient referrals to appropriate clinical services
- Liaising with other disciplines and outside agencies
- Participating in the delivery and evaluation of healthcare services at Rowden Surgery
- Responding to medical emergencies
- Ensuring adherence to Infection Control principles
Education and Development:
- Keeping abreast of advances in clinical practice
- Supporting junior colleagues in their development
- Attending mandatory training identified through the appraisal system
- Recording all healthcare activity within the patient's clinical records
- Ensuring effective communication between all stakeholders

PERSON SPECIFICATION - POSITION OF SPECIALIST NURSE
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered General Nurse
- Professional Knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training
- Minimum 1 year experience in practice/Community Nursing
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Nurse independent prescribing
- Diabetic Diploma
- Travel health and vaccinations
Experience of providing Diabetic patient education and initiating and adjusting medication in line with agreed protocols.
