Job Title: Care Assistant/Bank Care Assistant
Reports to: Deputy Manager/Staff Nurse/Senior Care Assistant
Responsible to: Home Manager
Job purpose:
To promote a supportive, safe and caring environment, working as part of a team, providing practical assistance and emotional support to residents. Enabling residents to achieve their desired and achievable level of independence, promoting inclusion within the care home and local community. Residents are supported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, within the care home environment.
To work positively and enthusiastically with residents to support and enable them to lead as independent and fulfilling lives as possible.
- 1. Keep accurate records as required, maintaining resident records and ensuring confidentiality. Contributing to the preparation, implementation, monitoring and regular review of individual care and support plans. Maintain resident records.
- 2. Act as a Keyworker for a number of residents ensuring that the team works together to provide a safe, caring environment for everyone.
- 3. Fully understand the needs of the residents, and their families, involving them in all aspects of the planning of their care and support.
- 4. Providing the necessary degree of assistance to residents in line with their abilities and need to enable them to carry out day to day personal tasks including developing personal relationships, personal hygiene and diet, in accordance with their Care Plan.
- 5. To ensure residents are treated with dignity at all times and given support with their personal and intimate care as required. This may include bathing, dressing and assistance with continence care.
- 6. Maintaining residents' health and wellbeing ensuring they are given choices where possible and supporting their nutritional needs.
- 7. To proactively engage with residents as appropriate to encourage positive behaviours and enjoyment, whilst maximising independence.
- 8. Assist residents to be involved in household chores where appropriate, this could include laundry and preparing meals.
- 9. Encouraging residents to participate in the activities they enjoy with the aim of making each day the best it can possibly be.
- 10. To engage in at least 4 team meetings each year.
- 11. Maintain the existing skills of the residents and encourage and support them to develop new ones.
- 12. Support residents to live the life they want to lead, make decisions, have as many choices about their lives as possible and be supported to take appropriate risks.
- 13. Working with residents as a group, encouraging participation.
- 14. Generally provide ongoing practical and emotional support to residents, empowering them to gain their optimum level of independence.
- 15. Be proficient in the use of information technology and maximise its use in all aspects of work.
- 16. To actively participate in training opportunities, attending all core skills and mandatory training to reach the required level of competence and utilising new skills to continuously improve and develop.
- 17. Be alert to and proactive in safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the residents, visitors, yourself and colleagues based in the service.
- 18. Actively engage in supervision, and appraisal to continuously improve and develop.
- 19. Comply with Health and Safety responsibilities
- Maintaining a safe work environment
- Keeping up to date with H & S policies/procedures
- Fire safety checks
- Escape routes being regularly checked
- Ensuring accidents/ incidents are reported and recorded in compliance with the Health & Safety Policy
- Health and Safety Inspections
- Monitoring the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of residents
- 20. To be aware of company policies and procedures and adhere to these at all times.
- 21. To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
