Job Overview: We are seeking a hardworking and reliable General Operative to join our team for the fitting out of a new furniture shop. The successful candidate will assist in a variety of tasks to support the installation and setup of the store, including handling materials, assisting with furniture assembly, and ensuring the work area remains clean and organized. Key Responsibilities: * Furniture Assembly & Installation: Assist in the assembly, placement, and installation of furniture and display units according to design plans. * Site Preparation & Organization: Help with preparing the site for fit-out work, including unloading deliveries, moving stock, and arranging furniture and display items. * General Labouring: Perform basic manual labour duties, such as lifting, carrying, and securing furniture and equipment, ensuring safety standards are met. * Cleaning & Tidying: Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment by cleaning up debris and ensuring tools and materials are stored correctly. * Tool Handling: Assist with the setup and use of basic tools (under supervision) and ensure they are kept in good working order. * Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including wearing PPE and following safe lifting practices. * Team Collaboration: Work closely with other operatives, designers, and contractors to ensure smooth project completion. * Stock Management: Assist with stock taking and managing deliveries to ensure proper storage and organization. Key Skills and Experience: * Experience: Previous experience in a similar role (furniture installation, retail fit-out, construction, or general labouring) is desirable but not essential. * Manual Handling: Ability to lift heavy items and work in a physically demanding environment. * Team Player: Ability to work well in a team and take direction from supervisors or managers. * Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, ensuring that furniture is assembled and placed as per design specifications. * Basic Tool Knowledge: Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools is a plus. * Health & Safety Awareness: Understanding of and adherence to health and safety protocols on-site. * Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours as required to meet project deadlines. Personal Attributes: * Strong work ethic and reliability * Good communication skills * Positive, can-do attitude * Problem-solving approach to tasks * Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Working Conditions: * Hours: 3 x 11hr days, starting at 08:00hrs overtime as required to meet deadlines * Location: Site-based work in a retail environment * PPE: Safety boots and Hi-vis required (not provided)
