We are seeking a technically minded and customer-focused Stores / Sales Assistant to join our busy engineering and industrial supply operation. This is a pivotal, dual-function role that bridges the gap between the sales desk and the warehouse. You will be responsible for providing an exceptional level of service to both internal and external customers, leveraging your engineering knowledge to identify the correct components and solutions, while managing the physical flow of stock through the stores.

This role is ideally suited to someone with an engineering background (either professional or as a knowledgeable hobbyist) who enjoys "hands-on" problem-solving and has a passion for industrial products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sales & Customer Service
    • Customer Support: Act as the first point of contact on the trade counter and via telephone, handling incoming sales enquiries, advising customers on product selection, and providing technical insight on hydraulic, pneumatic, and other industrial components.
    • Quotations & Order Processing: Process customer orders and quotations accurately, negotiating prices in line with company guidelines and achieving deadlines for submissions.
    • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure repeat business and loyalty. Actively identify up-selling opportunities and support external sales staff where required.
  • Stores & Warehouse Operations
    • Goods Inwards/Outwards: Manage the receipt of deliveries, checking accuracy against paperwork, and coordinate the dispatch of goods, including packing and shipping.
    • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, conduct regular cycle counts and stock-taking activities, and ensure inventory records are updated accurately within the computerised stock management system.
    • Warehouse Maintenance: Maintain an efficient and safe storage environment, ensuring correct location of stock and promoting a high level of quality and safety within the department.
Person Specification
  • Experience & Knowledge: Proven experience in a stores, warehouse, or trade counter environment, ideally within the industrial or engineering sector (e.g., Compressed Air, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Electrical Wholesale, Lifting Equipment, or MRO supplies).
  • Technical Knowledge: A sound understanding or keen interest in engineering components, industrial parts, or technical products.
  • Computer Literacy: Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a working knowledge of a stock management system (e.g. Protean / Job Logic) is highly beneficial.
Skills & Attributes
  • Customer Focus: Excellent communication skills with a confident telephone manner and a commitment to providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Organisation: Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced reactionary environment.
  • Initiative: A self-motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Health & Safety: Awareness of workplace health and safety practices.

  • Experience with CRM software.
Working Conditions
  • Full-time, Permanent.
  • Monday to Friday - 7.30am - 4.30pm. This role is based on-site at our warehouse/office premises.
