We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join the friendly and supportive clinical team at Rothwell & Desborough Healthcare Group. The post holder will support delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care as part of the multidisciplinary team, working across both Rothwell Medical Centre and Desborough Surgery.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical procedures including phlebotomy, venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, injections (e.g. B12) and other basic diagnostic procedures.
- Support long‑term condition (LTC) monitoring and basic reviews such as blood pressure and lifestyle assessments.
- Carry out NHS Health Checks and promote health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Perform routine observations including blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis and other observations.
- Support national and local vaccination programmes, including flu campaigns.
- Assist with health promotion and patient education to encourage healthy lifestyles.
- Maintain accurate clinical records using SystmOne in line with practice protocols.
- Act as a chaperone and assist GPs and nurses during patient examinations and procedures.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.
- Undertake stock checks and support cold chain management of vaccines and medications.
- Recognise and escalate concerns about patient health or safeguarding in line with practice policies.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within the clinical team.
- Maintain clinical stock levels and carry out regular stock checks.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Support a positive learning and team environment.
- Participate in smooth day‑to‑day running of clinical services.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
- Phlebotomy training.
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
- Professional, caring and patient‑focused approach.
- Understanding of infection control and clinical governance.
- Experience using SystmOne.
- Knowledge of primary care services and QOF.
- Aware of safeguarding procedures.
- Knowledge of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; submission for Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
