Technical Product Manager - Fin Tech/Payments - Java/Kafka
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Product Manager to join a rapidly growing B2B Fin Tech.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of product, engineering and delivery, with a strong technical understanding of enterprise software development, Java-based platforms and event-driven architectures.
Working closely with Engineering, Architecture and Business stakeholders, you will take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of complex software solutions, ensuring product requirements are translated into clear technical deliverables and successfully implemented.
You will play a key role in driving the delivery of scalable, high-performance platforms, with a particular focus on backend services, API integrations, messaging technologies and enterprise implementations.
AI is becoming an integral part of how the engineering team operates, and you\'ll be expected to leverage AI tools to improve planning, documentation, delivery efficiency and team productivity.
As a Technical Product Owner, you\'ll take ownership of product delivery from discovery through to implementation, ensuring engineering teams have the clarity and direction needed to deliver high-quality software at pace.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the delivery of strategic software initiatives across Java-based enterprise platforms and distributed systems.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into detailed technical epics, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Partner with Engineering, Architecture and QA teams to ensure solutions are technically sound, scalable and aligned with the overall product roadmap.
- Manage and prioritise the product backlog, balancing business priorities, technical debt and platform enhancements.
- Drive Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
- Coordinate the successful implementation and delivery of software releases across multiple engineering teams.
- Work alongside developers to clarify technical requirements, integration points and delivery dependencies throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Support the delivery of enterprise integrations, APIs and event-driven solutions using technologies such as Kafka and RESTful services.
- Track delivery progress, manage risks and proactively remove blockers to ensure successful implementation.
- Collaborate with Implementation, Client Delivery and Operations teams to ensure smooth production releases and client onboarding.
- Produce clear technical documentation, delivery plans and implementation roadmaps using AI tools such as Claude to improve efficiency.
- Monitor delivery performance and continuously improve Agile processes and engineering best practices.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, particularly within Java ecosystems, cloud-native development and distributed architectures.
- Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technical Product Owner, Technical Product Manager or Delivery Lead within a software engineering environment.
- Previous experience delivering enterprise Java applications within a Fin Tech, Payments or Financial Services organisation.
- Strong understanding of Java application architecture and modern software engineering principles.
- Experience working with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale backend platforms, APIs, microservices and enterprise integration projects.
- Strong understanding of software implementation, release management and end-to-end delivery lifecycles.
- Experience working closely with software engineers, solution architects and Dev Ops teams throughout the SDLC.
- Excellent knowledge of Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
- Strong experience using Jira and Confluence to manage product backlogs and delivery.
- Ability to challenge technical solutions, understand architectural trade-offs and communicate effectively with engineering teams.
- Experience delivering cloud-based applications (AWS, Azure or GCP) would be advantageous.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Dev Ops practices and modern software delivery methodologies is highly desirable.
- Experience using AI tools (including Claude) to improve delivery, documentation and team productivity.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to operate across both technical and business teams.
- CSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager or equivalent Agile certification would be advantageous.
