Overview of Role

Rothschild & Co has the largest and market leading debt restructuring team in Europe. We are consistently ranked No 1 by volume and value of transactions in EMEA by Thomson Reuters. The Restructuring Team is part of the wider Debt Advisory & Restructuring Team, advising borrowers across the credit rating spectrum from investment grade to sub-investment grade, and with market leading expertise in all debt capital markets and products. The Restructuring Team provides expert advisory and execution services on large and mid-sized complex debt restructurings acting for companies, senior and junior creditors (institutional investors, distressed debt hedge funds, banks and CLOs), private equity sponsors and other key stakeholders involved in transactions. Our market leading position and integration with the most active M&A team in EMEA allows us to deliver the best insights and solutions in restructurings. Our deep understanding of restructuring technologies, our unique degree of transactional experience, and our unrivalled network of industry and financing specialists in Europe and around the world gives us a definite advantage in obtaining the best outcome for our clients in stressed or distressed situations. We are involved in the largest and best deals, driving new trends and finding novel solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Be an integral member of the deal team by participating in transactions, including:
  • Reviewing term sheets, legal implementation and debt documents, and defining supporting analysis and arguments for negotiation purposes
  • Building and analysing dynamic financial models to assess impact on company's cashflows and evaluate stakeholder returns in various balance sheet restructuring outcomes
  • Researching, analysing and following up on potential restructuring targets
  • Supporting senior bankers' marketing initiatives to deliver pitch materials to specification

Education and Qualifications

  • A level or equivalent: AAA or above
  • Degree or equivalent: 2:1 or above
  • ACA (or equivalent) qualified: first time passes (distinct advantage, not essential)

Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • Strong modelling capabilities with good experience forecasting cashflows and debt
  • Familiarity with various debt instruments (bonds, loans, senior/junior/mezzanine, secured/unsecured) and understanding of the European debt market is desirable but not essential
  • Solid analytical skills with high level of creativity and ability to think strategically to find solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to communicate clearly, persuade and influence
  • Must have ability to be proactive, persevere, overcome setbacks and deliver results and lead processes
  • Ability to recognise fee-generating opportunities and identify potential restructuring targets
  • Understand the drivers and valuation metrics of relevant sectors
