Our equity capital markets team provides investment banking services to clients and focuses on assisting them in raising equity capital.
Role Overview
We are looking for graduates to work within Rothschild & Co’s Equity Research team. The successful candidates will undertake a number of rotations around various departments and research sectors during their first year with Rothschild & Co, building on the skills required to become a successful Junior Analyst. It is our intention that the candidates will take on stock coverage at a later stage. Typically, an equity research department is split into different coverage groups that each focus on a specific sector. Rothschild & Co Redburn has over 90 analysts, based in London, working across a total of 24 research sectors, and in the quantitative and technical analysis teams. Underpinning all of our graduates' roles is the need for a genuine interest in financial markets, high levels of communication, accuracy and attention to detail, great relationship building and teamwork skills.
Initially the role will comprise:
- Maintaining and updating industry models, collecting and analysing new data (to support new ideas or reports)
- Building and maintaining company financial models for new or existing coverage
- Maintaining and updating client presentations
- Monitoring sector news flow
- Building a working understanding of UK, European and US companies
- Drafting earnings results comments (key points)
- Responding to client requests for data/information
- Attending client and company meetings, and industry conferences
- Calling companies for data/information and building relationships with companies’ investor relations teams
- Keeping track of earnings calendar/other important dates
- Using all of the above to build experience and understanding of the industry, and company-specific knowledge
Qualifications, experience and competencies
- Completed or are on track for a 2:1 or equivalent in your university degree
- An understanding of coding, in particular SQL and Python
- A good grasp of valuation metrics and value drivers of a business
- Aptitude for financial modelling and valuation of companies (e.g. SOTP, DCF)
- Excellent spoken communication skills – experience of giving presentations is valuable
- Excellent written communication skills – experience in report writing and/or essay writing is valuable
- Strong Excel and analytical skills
- Willingness to engage day‑to‑day with our sales and sales‑traders, including making ad hoc presentations to them
- Ability to demonstrate intellectual flair, independent thinking, initiative, self‑sufficiency and ambition with a passion for equity markets
This role is a controlled function under the FCA rules. Employees must obtain and maintain certification in order to be employed in a controlled function.
