A forward-thinking secondary school in Keighley is seeking an experienced and committed Assistant Head Teacher (Behaviour) to join the senior leadership team. This is a key strategic role within the school, focused on driving high standards of behaviour, attendance, and student engagement. You will be instrumental in shaping a positive, inclusive, and consistent behaviour culture across the school, ensuring that every student is supported to succeed both academically and personally. This role requires a strong leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on pastoral support. The position is available immediately and will run on an ongoing basis until July 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the whole-school behaviour strategy, ensuring consistent implementation across all year groups
- Develop and embed clear behaviour systems, policies, and expectations aligned with school values
- Take a proactive approach to reducing exclusions, improving attendance, and raising student engagement
- Oversee pastoral systems, including behaviour interventions, mentoring, and targeted support programmes
- Work closely with Heads of Year, SENCOs, safeguarding teams, and external agencies
- Analyse behaviour data to identify trends and implement effective interventions
- Support staff with behaviour management strategies, coaching, and professional development
- Manage serious behaviour incidents, ensuring fair, consistent, and restorative approaches
- Foster strong relationships with parents and carers to support positive behaviour at home and school
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Have proven experience in a senior leadership or middle leadership pastoral role within a secondary school
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of behaviour management, EBD, and SEND needs
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Be an inspirational leader with the ability to motivate staff and students alike
- Remain calm, consistent, and resilient in challenging situations
- Be highly organised with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Show a restorative and inclusive approach to behaviour and student development
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
