Directorate: Policy, Strategy and Engagement

Temporary fixed term for 12 months, full time, 37 hours per week. We’re looking for a creative, experienced marketing and communications professional to join our Corporate Communications Team as a Senior Communications Officer. The role sits within the Corporate Communications Team, where you will support the development of the Council’s communications strategy and plans for the Fostering service. The role will work closely with members of the Fostering Rotherham Team and other members of the Children and Young People’s Service directorate.

Main duties of the post include:

  • Managing the Fostering Rotherham social media channels, website and other digital platforms;
  • Planning, delivering, and managing a range of marketing campaigns;
  • Curating and creating a range of engaging content including graphics, photos and videos;
  • Writing press releases;
  • Managing media relations around Fostering for Rotherham Council.

Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and implementing strategies and plans for the delivery of marketing, internal and external communications, media relations, e-communications and social media.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a range of content, including videography, photography, audio recording, design, and copywriting, to tell engaging, lived experience of foster carers, children, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and manage a range of channels and social media platforms supporting these services.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships internally with officers and councillors, and externally with partners, print and broadcast media, and suppliers of commissioned services (e.g. print, advertising, PR and creative services, photography).
  • Ability to use analytical and evaluation techniques to implement best practices and ongoing improvements to services offered by the Fostering Team.
  • Relevant experience advising and supporting councillors with the continued development and accuracy of e-bulletins, newsletters and other relevant marketing material.
  • Ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and plans to manage high profile media issues.
  • Ability to work closely with the Council’s online services function to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to managing e-communications and web pages in line with the Council’s priorities and strategies.
