Lead the end-to-end payroll service for the Trust, ensuring accurate, timely payment and full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Manage the relationship with the external payroll provider and respond to complex payroll, pension and salary queries from colleagues across the Trust.

Requirements include demonstrable experience in payroll management, reconciliation, validation, authorisation, audits and year‑end processes. Strong numerical, analytical and IT skills, coupled with excellent relationship management internally and externally, are essential. The role reports to the HR Operations Manager and line‑manages the Payroll Assistant, building capacity and resilience within the payroll function. Work closely with HR and Finance Shared Services Teams on education‑sector specific tasks such as the School Workforce Census (SWC), Teachers’ Pensions (TPS) and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Ensure statutory payments, auto‑enrolment duties and HMRC requirements are met in partnership with the third‑party payroll provider, maintaining clear audit trails across multiple academies.

About You: Experienced in statutory payroll compliance and pension scheme processes, including TPS and LGPS. Highly organised, detail‑focused and data‑driven. Excellent communicator, able to explain complex matters clearly to a range of stakeholders. Professional, discreet, and able to handle highly confidential information with integrity. Proactive, enthusiastic and committed to continuous improvement. Positive, collaborative, and an effective team player with strong leadership skills.
