An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Policy, Strategy and Engagement Directorate for the role of Cabinet Support Manager. The post holder will be expected to act with absolute discretion and support the Leader and Cabinet in achieving their priorities, within the framework of the officers' code of conduct, and will have a key role to play in maintaining and developing the council's reputation with external stakeholders.
This is a key role in the Council with the successful applicant providing in-depth support to the Cabinet, including and principally to the Leader and of the Council. The post holder will have a key role to play in maintaining and developing the council's reputation with external stakeholders.
The postholder will play a pivotal role in providing strategic and operational support, ensuring Cabinet can operate effectively both internally and externally, locally, regionally and nationally and that support is provided in promoting the policies and initiatives of the Council liaising with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Corporate Communications Team.
This will be a varied, fast-paced and at times challenging role with competing deadlines. As the Cabinet Support Manager, you will need to be an exceptionally organised, strategic thinking individual with a keen eye for attention to detail who is able to foster, manage and build relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
The postholder will be required to have an understanding of the context of working within a political environment and liaising with senior public sector leaders, government ministers, senior business leaders, civil servants and local government officers. Along with an in-depth knowledge and working experience of the Council’s decision making and governance processes.
You will lead on the administrative functions of the Leader’s office as well as having overall line management responsibility for the Leader’s PA and a team of Cabinet Support Assistants.
The post will report to the Head of Democratic Services and be a key part of its high-performing management team.
