Job description

Directorate: Policy, Strategy & Engagement

Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

Are you a proactive communications and marketing professional who can spot opportunities, build relationships and create content and campaigns that make an impact?

We're looking for a talented Communications and Marketing Officer to join our ambitious team and help tell the story of Rotherham.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a wide range of high-profile projects, supporting the Council's priorities and helping communicate the services, initiatives and programmes that make a difference to our communities.

The role

As part of a busy and supportive Communications and Marketing team, you'll:

  • Lead communications and marketing activity for a range of projects and services
  • Identify and develop positive news stories and media opportunities
  • Support the Council's press office and respond to media enquiries
  • Create engaging content for digital and social media channels
  • Develop and deliver campaigns that reach and influence target audiences
  • Provide communications advice and support to services, managers and senior leaders
  • Work closely with partners and stakeholders across the borough

No two days are the same. One day you could be managing media enquiries or supporting a high-profile announcement. The next you could be planning a campaign, creating content, developing stakeholder relationships or advising colleagues on communications approaches.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Takes initiative and seeks out opportunities
  • Can turn complex information into clear and engaging content
  • Builds positive relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders
  • Balances creativity with sound judgement
  • Enjoys working in a fast-moving environment
  • Brings energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to their work

Why join us?

In return, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on projects that make a real difference to local people
  • Gain experience across media relations, campaigns, marketing, digital communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Develop your skills within a supportive and ambitious team
  • Help shape how one of South Yorkshire's largest councils communicates with residents, businesses, partners and communities

If you're ready to bring fresh ideas, take ownership, and help tell Rotherham's story, we'd love to hear from you.

If you have any questions or would like an informal chat about the role, please email daniel.richardson@rotherham.gov.uk

This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
