Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber Foundation Trust invites applications for a full‑time Speciality Doctor to lead care within the New Beginnings inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification unit. The post includes an own office, free parking, administrative support and is supervised by a full‑time Addiction Psychiatrist. The unit is conveniently located near the city centre and transport links. The role offers CPD, service development, teaching and research opportunities, a study leave allowance and a mentoring scheme.

Clinical responsibilities:

  • Complete assessments of patients admitted to the unit, including full history, physical examination and signposting.
  • Prescribe a range of medications for physical or mental health conditions, detoxification and for any medical emergencies.
  • Formulate and review detoxification plans in accordance with patient progress.
  • Respond to and manage medical and mental health emergencies arising during detoxification or from existing health problems.
  • Input into twice daily multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Work with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Team Leader to ensure appropriate referrals to the unit.
  • When the Consultant Psychiatrist is on leave, review blood test results and sign batch prescriptions for community patients.
  • Provide community care in emergency situations.

Additional duties:

  • Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement work within Aspire Drug and Alcohol Services.
  • Engage in research opportunities through the Grounded Research team.
  • Complete annual appraisal and GMC revalidation as scheduled.
  • Work with an appointed appraiser (rotating every three years).
