An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Fractional Managing Director to support a well-established multi-sport organisation based on Merseyside currently generating circa £1m turnover through memberships and goodwill contributions. This organisation is entering a period of transformation, requiring an experienced leader to provide strategic direction, operational oversight and commercial leadership through several phases of development.

Currently this organisation operates three separate entities across three sporting areas. The key priority of this appointment will be to review and lead the integration of these entities into a unified Group structure, ensuring each area operates with aligned objectives, governance and clearly defined budgets while maintaining individual identities. This role requires a fresh perspective from someone who can bring structure, challenge existing thinking where required and drive positive change in a calm and measured manner. The environment is committee‑led and can naturally involve multiple stakeholder views, therefore the successful individual must be politically astute, neutral in approach and capable of securing buy‑in across a broad range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic review and organisational restructuring initiatives
  • Oversee the transition to a Group company structure
  • Introduce financial and operational frameworks, including budgets across each entity
  • Provide leadership across multiple stakeholders, committees and volunteers
  • Support and influence governance improvements and decision‑making processes
  • Drive commercial thinking and identify new revenue opportunities
  • Support the development of a proposed refurbish project, incorporating additional funding facilities and long‑term income streams
  • Bring innovative ideas around revenue generation and sustainability
  • Deliver change whilst maintaining engagement and support across the wider organisation
The Individual

The successful candidate will be a commercially focused and strategically minded leader with experience operating within complex stakeholder environments; an interest or background in a sporting or leisure industry would be highly advantageous. You will likely demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership and change management capability
  • Experience within the sporting or leisure sector would be advantageous
  • Experience managing transformation and restructuring projects
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to identify and develop new income streams
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Calm, measured and credible leadership style
  • Ability to challenge constructively and make difficult decisions where required
  • Experience working with boards, committees, trustees or volunteer‑led organisations would be advantageous
