Rotheram Carrington Financial Recruitment is exclusively working with an independent SME organisation, based near Chester who is recruiting for a qualified Director of Finance. This role will be a key member of the leadership team and instrumental in the financial strategy for the future of the organisation. Our Client is ideally looking for someone full-time; however, they will consider someone looking for 3 days. This is a growing business with a commercial focus on the business with ambitious aspirations to grow, the turnover has increased to £5m over the past couple of years, and they continue to grow with new projects in process, so it is an exciting time to join.

As the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Reporting to the Business Director you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the finance function, including:
  • Production of monthly management accounts and year-end
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Cashflow management
  • Financial reporting, compliance, and audit
  • Liaise and support non-finance stakeholders across the business to ensure that they understand their budget & spending.
  • Continuous process improvement of the organisation’s systems and processes, pro-active in making efficiencies and cost savings as required.
  • Managing and developing a finance team of four, ensuring that everyone is aligned with their financial objectives.
  • Provide strategic support to the Business Director and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare all budgeting and forecasting monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Financial support with regards to new projects, advising on opportunities and potential risks.
  • Update the leadership team on any changes around pricing structures.
  • Lead the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors.
  • Ensure that all financial regulations are adhered to with regards to the sector and government policies.
  • Responsible for VAT compliance and reporting.
  • Responsible for overseeing billing and credit control processes.
  • Managing multiple funding and investment schemes.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key contacts with the banks, auditors, and other external senior stakeholders.
  • Ad hoc management information, develop and create financial models, analyse and interpret complex data.
  • Skills/Experience

    • ACCA/ACA/CIMA Qualified.
    • Proven experience in a Financial Controller role for a growing SME.
    • Proven experience in leading a small finance team.
    • This role is very people-focused, so the successful recruit must be an excellent communicator with people at all levels, and have the tenacity to put people at ease should they not have an understanding of finance.
    • Background within a growing SME within the service sector.
    • Good understanding of VAT and government funding initiatives.
    • Comprehensive budgeting and forecasting experience, must be able to support and mentor non-finance heads of departments, and ensure that they feel comfortable with their goals and objectives.
    • Team player with an open-door policy.
