The Opportunity
Our Client is seeking an experienced and highly regarded Major Loss professional to join their leadership team as a Director – Major Loss. This is a senior appointment suited to an established Major Loss Adjuster with a strong technical reputation and proven experience handling complex, high-value commercial property losses. The successful individual will take ownership of a portfolio of significant and technically challenging claims while also contributing to the strategic growth and development of the regional business. This role offers a unique blend of technical adjusting, client relationship management, business development, and leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value commercial property losses from instruction through to settlement.
- Conduct site visits and investigations throughout the UK and occasionally Europe.
- Engage with insurers, reinsurers, brokers, policyholders, claimants, and other key stakeholders.
- Review policy coverage, contractual obligations, technical reports, and quantum assessments.
- Produce detailed reports and recommendations for clients.
- Instruct, manage, and coordinate external experts, surveyors, engineers, forensic specialists, and other third parties.
- Maintain proactive communication with all parties throughout the claims lifecycle.
- Authorise payments and oversee settlement negotiations where appropriate.
Development & Market Presence
- Build and strengthen relationships with existing insurer, broker, and corporate clients.
- Identify opportunities to develop new business and expand existing accounts.
- Support and participate in client presentations, market meetings, and industry events.
- Act as a senior ambassador for the business within the insurance market.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance service delivery and market presence.
Leadership & Team Development
- Work closely with senior management to help shape the direction and growth of the Major Loss operation.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and development of adjusting talent.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues handling complex losses.
- Assist in workload management and resource planning across the team.
Candidate Profile
We are interested in speaking with established Major Loss Adjusters, Executive Adjusters, Technical Directors, or Senior Adjusters who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience handling major and complex commercial property losses.
- Strong technical knowledge across policy coverage, liability, quantum, and claims stakeholder management and client-facing skills.
- Proven ability to manage high-value and technically challenging claims.
- Strong report writing and communication abilities.
- Experience developing and maintaining insurer and broker relationships.
- Leadership capability with experience mentoring and supporting colleagues.
- ACILA qualification (or close to completion) preferred.
