An established and growing building consultancy division is looking to appoint an experienced Building Surveyor to manage a varied portfolio of surveying instructions. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong surveyor who enjoys a mix of insurance-related reinstatement projects, defect diagnosis, contract administration, and broader consultancy work. The role offers exposure to both residential and commercial property projects, working closely with insurers, loss adjusters, policyholders, and private clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from initial survey through to completion, ensuring high technical standards, strong customer service, and effective project delivery throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed defect diagnosis and building surveys
- Prepare costed schedules of works and technical reports
- Manage reinstatement and repair projects from instruction through to completion
- Act as Contract Administrator on refurbishment and reinstatement works
- Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, contractors, policyholders, and other stakeholders
- Monitor project progress, variations, payments, and contractor performance
- Ensure works comply with relevant regulations, legislation, and health & safety standards
- Provide technical guidance and consultancy support across a range of property-related matters
- Handle both insurance-led and private client surveying instructions
- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining service level agreements and deadlines
About You
- Strong technical knowledge of building surveying principles
- Previous experience within building consultancy, construction, insurance reinstatement, or project management
- Experience handling commercial and/or residential property projects
- Knowledge of contract administration and JCT contracts
- Good understanding of CDM Regulations
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Able to work independently while also contributing positively within a wider team
- Organised, proactive, and capable of managing a varied caseload
- High level of IT literacy and report writing ability
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Experience within insurance-related surveying or claims environments
- MRICS qualified, or working towards chartered status
- Experience in defect analysis, pathology, and reinstatement projects
- Exposure to both domestic and commercial property work
- Consultancy or client-facing experience
