An established, multi-disciplinary property consultancy is seeking a senior Building Surveying leader to drive the next phase of its regional growth in Birmingham. The business already has an established presence in the Midlands, with existing teams operating in the region and servicing a strong client base. This role represents a strategic investment in expanding that footprint, creating a dedicated Building Surveying hub to support increasing demand and unlock further growth opportunities.
Backed by a well-resourced national platform, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a team, develop client relationships, and shape a regional business unit with genuine autonomy and long-term support. There is also scope for individuals to bring an existing team or client following, where appropriate.
The Role
As Director of Building Surveying, you will take responsibility for establishing and growing a dedicated regional team in Birmingham. You will combine hands-on project involvement with strategic leadership, business development, and team building. You will act as a senior representative in the market, responsible for developing new business, strengthening existing client relationships, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality consultancy services. This role offers significant autonomy, underpinned by an established pipeline, existing regional activity, and strong internal collaboration across the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Office Development
- Establish and lead a growing Building Surveying presence in Birmingham
- Build, recruit, and develop a high-performing team aligned to regional demand
- Foster a collaborative and high-quality culture consistent with the wider business
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development support (including APC guidance)
- Contribute to the broader leadership team and strategic direction
- Business Development & Growth
- Capitalize on existing regional relationships and pipeline to accelerate growth
- Develop and execute a regional business plan aligned with wider objectives
- Build strong relationships with clients, investors, and key stakeholders
- Identify and convert new opportunities across the commercial property sector

- Project & Technical Delivery
- Oversee delivery of a broad range of Building Surveying services, including:
- Dilapidations (landlord and tenant)
- Technical Due Diligence (acquisitions, disposals, refinancing)
- Contract Administration and refurbishment projects
- Project Management and Employer’s Agent roles
- Defect analysis, schedules of condition, and lifecycle reporting
- Ensure technical excellence, consistency, and compliance across all outputs
- Provide senior oversight on complex or high-value instructions
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, regulations, and best practice
- Commercial & Financial Management
- Take ownership of regional performance, including revenue growth and profitability
- Monitor pipeline, forecasting, and team utilisation
- Ensure strong commercial management across fees, costs, and delivery
- Contribute to wider business planning and investment strategy
- Collaboration & Integration
- Work closely with existing regional and national teams to deliver integrated services
- Leverage internal capabilities across disciplines to support client solutions
- Promote knowledge sharing and consistency across the wider business
Candidate Profile
- Experience
- Extensive experience in commercial Building Surveying within a consultancy environment
- Proven track record in business development and client relationship management
- Experience leading teams or a strong desire to step into a leadership role
- Demonstrated success in winning and delivering work
- Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline
- Chartered status (MRICS essential)
