The Buyer will work within a fast-paced environment and will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement process for construction sites across the UK and ROI. The role will work in partnership with project construction and site management teams, through the tendering, planning and build process stages to ensure that the material milestones are met whilst minimising costs. The role will involve the procurement, scheduling & management of materials for multiple projects. This is an office-based role.

Buyer Responsibilities:

  • Assist Commercial, Project and Site Managers with procurement functions.
  • Ensure materials are provided on time and to budget.
  • Issue a copy of the Purchase Order to the individual who raises the requisition.
  • Track all orders, ensuring that potential delays are escalated at the earliest possible opportunity.
  • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers.
  • Identify potential suppliers, liaising with existing suppliers, and building and maintaining good relationships with them.
  • Negotiating and agreeing prices and monitoring their progress, checking the quality of service provided.
  • Accurately input and issue purchase order references on Sage 50 Accounts, ensuring all costs are recorded at ordering stage.
  • Conducting research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality.
  • On/Off hire of all hired plant and equipment and ensuring all safety certificates are received at point of hire.
  • Obtain relevant certificates/specifications for O&M Manuals.
  • To ensure that goods purchased are to specification in terms of quality, quantity and delivery and to advise on those suppliers who fail to meet specifications.
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance.
  • Uphold the organisations purchasing procedure.
  • Dealing with overcharges and invoice queries.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience within the construction industry is a must.
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Organised with the ability to manage and plan own workload.
  • Ability to read and complete take-offs from drawings desirable.
  • Computer literate and good with numbers.
  • Driving licence and own transport required.
  • Reliable with excellent timekeeping.
  • Candidates must currently live in the UK.
